How Is the Fire Rating of Movable Partition Walls Divided?

In architectural design and decoration, movable partition walls have become the first choice for many commercial and public places because of their flexibility and space reuse capabilities. However, when choosing movable partition walls, in addition to considering their aesthetics, sound insulation and durability, the fire rating is also a key factor that cannot be ignored. So, how are the fire ratings of movable partition walls divided? Let's take a deeper look.

Basic concepts of fire rating

Simply put, the fire rating refers to the ability of a material or component to resist combustion and transfer heat in a fire. According to national standards, fire ratings are generally divided into Class A, Class B1, Class B2 and Class B3, etc. For movable partition walls, their fire ratings mainly depend on the materials used and the construction method.

Classification of fire ratings of movable partition walls

1.Class A fireproof partition walls: non-combustible materials
Class A fireproof partition walls are usually made of non-combustible materials, such as rock wool, fiberglass, etc. These materials will not burn in a fire, nor will they produce toxic smoke, so they have extremely high fire safety. Class A fireproof partition walls are widely used in places with extremely high fire protection requirements, such as hospitals, schools, theaters, etc. Its construction methods usually include double-layer or multi-layer structures, with non-combustible materials filled in the middle to ensure that the structural integrity and thermal insulation can be maintained for a long time in a fire.

2.Class B1 fireproof partition walls: flame-retardant materials
Class B1 fireproof partition walls are made of flame-retardant materials, such as fire-resistant wood panels, metal composite panels, etc. These materials are not easy to burn in a fire, and the burning speed is slow, and the smoke and toxic gases produced are relatively small. Class B1 fireproof partition walls are suitable for places with certain fire protection requirements, such as offices, shopping malls, hotels, etc. Its construction methods may include single-layer or multi-layer structures, with flame-retardant materials filled in the middle or treated with fire-retardant coatings.

3.Class B2 and below fireproof partition walls: combustible and flammable materialsClass B2 and below fireproof partition walls are usually made of combustible or flammable materials, such as ordinary wood panels, plastics, etc. These materials are easy to burn in a fire, and the burning speed is fast, and they produce a lot of smoke and toxic gases. Therefore, the fire resistance of B2-level and below fireproof partition walls is relatively poor, and they are generally only suitable for places with low fire protection requirements. However, in actual applications, in order to improve their fire resistance, these materials are often treated with fireproofing or special construction methods are used.
