To meet the growing demand for flexible academic space, Baker developed an efficient and adaptable temporary lecture hall solution. With an expected lifespan of 10 to 20 years, the facility provides a practical solution to alleviate space shortages without requiring permanent structural modifications.
At the heart of this project's design is a fully automated, vertically folding, acoustically retractable wall system that maximizes flexibility. This space-saving system fully retracts into the ceiling when not in use, enabling quick transitions between open and divisible room configurations. It also supports straight, angled, tilted, or stepped layouts, ideally suited to the unique geometry of stepped lecture halls.

The vertically folding walls operate fully automatically, ensuring fast and reliable operation. Staff control the panel's height and direction with the push of a button. With no intervening floor or wall rails, unimpeded access is ensured while preserving the architectural integrity of the space.
When deployed, the acoustically retractable vertically folding walls provide a full-height sound barrier with a sound insulation rating of up to 62dB Rw, allowing two separate spaces to be used simultaneously without acoustic interference. When retracted, the motorized vertical folding wall neatly folds back into a concealed ceiling, restoring the original space for large lectures, events, or exhibitions.
The vertical retractable wall system features a fully integrated, concealed ceiling solution with no visible floor or wall tracks. Its structural design is designed for long-term stability and minimal maintenance, with reliable components housed within a sealed ceiling shell. Routine maintenance is simple and easy, often without disassembly of the wall. This makes it ideal for institutions requiring continuous operation.
By integrating this Baker motorized vertical folding wall, lecture halls can dynamically adapt to varying teaching styles and group sizes. This eliminates the inefficiencies of fixed, single-purpose classrooms, allowing a single space to efficiently and cost-effectively accommodate multiple uses.
